Minnesota History

Before it became the symbolic figure of the United States, the Bald Eagles history in Minnesota has been filled with tragedies and triumphs. When settlers first came to Minnesota, bald eagles were considered a nuisance that competed with humans for fish. The Minnesota Bald Eagle population was nearly lost forever with the introduction of DDT shortly after World War II.

Today, the Bald Eagle in Minnesota has made a dramatic recovery. Through tireless conservation efforts, the Bald Eagle has gone from nearly extinct in Minnesota to over 2,300 breeding pairs today.
